WHY THIS PARADOR

Why stay here?

A garden-and-view Parador above Córdoba, offering a cooler, quieter base with a broad panorama of the city rather than an address inside the old quarter.

Why it stands out

Choose it for space, gardens and a city panorama rather than for sleeping inside the historic quarter.

How long to stay

Two nights is the minimum I would favor for a first visit; Córdoba deserves a full day and an evening in the old city.

Best route role

Use Córdoba as a two-night anchor between Granada/Jaén and Carmona/Seville.

THE BUILDING & HISTORY

A modern Parador on a historically significant hill

The Parador stands on a hillside traditionally associated with the former summer residence of Abd al-Rahman I. The present hotel is modern, so the historical interest lies more in the location than in preserved palace fabric.

Gardens, terraces and the elevated position give the property a different character from Córdoba’s dense historic center.

SETTING & LOCATION

Above the city of the Caliphs

The Parador looks across Córdoba from the lower Sierra. The Mezquita-Catedral, Jewish Quarter, Alcázar and Medina Azahara remain the essential sightseeing priorities, but returning to a quieter hilltop hotel changes the pace of the stay.

ABOUT THE PARADOR

More about the stay

Located on the ruins of the summer palace of Abd-ar-Rahman I, on a hill surrounded by vegetation at the foot of the Cordoba Sierra, the Hotel has exceptional panoramic views over the legendary city of the caliphs.

The building abounds with freshness and a temperature 4ºC lower than in the city. The sensation of wellbeing is accentuated thanks to the pool and surrounding gardens (with a new orange garden called ‘Los Naranjos’) where the first palm trees in Europe may be found.

The indoor spaces are elegant and very bright with large lounges and spacious bedrooms. The dining room serves Cordovan salmorejo tomato soup, white almond gazpacho and churrasco sausage in green sauce.

THE REGION

Place this Parador in Andalusia

Andalusia is one of the richest regions for building a multi-Parador route. Granada, Córdoba, Jaén, Úbeda, Carmona and Ronda connect monumental cities with hilltop fortresses, while coastal Paradores add a different rhythm along the Mediterranean and Atlantic.
