Why stay here?
A palace-castle Parador in the heart of Olite, ideal for travelers who want Navarra’s medieval atmosphere without building the trip around a large city.
Why it stands out
The royal palace setting gives Olite a storybook quality that is especially strong after day visitors leave.
How long to stay
One night can work on a moving route; two nights are better if you want the palace, town and surrounding Navarra wine country.
Best route role
Use Olite to bridge Rioja, the Basque Country and Aragón without returning to a major city.
Part of Olite’s royal palace-castle complex
The Parador occupies part of the palace-castle of Olite, a 15th-century royal complex whose towers, walls and medieval forms dominate the historic town. Some rooms and public spaces sit within the historic fabric, with additional accommodation in an annex.
The scale of the royal complex makes the Parador feel connected to a much larger architectural story than the hotel alone. Olite works best when you allow time to experience the palace and town together.
Medieval Navarra between Rioja and the Pyrenees
Olite is compact, walkable and strategically placed between Pamplona, Rioja wine country and the routes east toward Aragón. That makes the Parador both a destination stay and a very useful connector in northern Spain.
More about the stay
The hotel occupies part of a majestic palace-castle that dates back to the 15th Century and has been declared a National Monument. The communal areas and some of the bedrooms are within the palace-castle itself, and the remaining rooms are housed in an annex building.
Its stone walls enclose a multitude of features that enhance the Medieval atmosphere of the building. Stained glass windows, archways and other typically Medieval elements can still be seen today inside and on the facade of the palace-castle.
The brick columns and arches in the restaurant area provide an excellent setting to enjoy local produce such as asparagus from Navarre, piquillo peppers, lamb al chilindrón (cooked with tomatoes and peppers) and cod ajoarriero (with garlic and peppers).
